The main philosophy behind this project is to finding something in nothing.

Theatre Garage Project is the brainchild of NSD & LAMDA graduate Ashwath Bhatt. People from various places in India have flocked to this ’empty space’ to redefine and rediscover themselves. Earlier TGP Residencies have seen a fusion of cultures – enthusiasts have flocked from places like Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Siliguri, Lucknow, Assam and Kashmir.

The Founder

The founder, Ashwath Bhatt, relates the story behind the conception of TGP as something that started in 2007. “Even as a student at NSD, I wanted to create a space where one could practice a craft without any disturbance. I travelled around India to understand the functioning of various companies and groups like Chorus repertory, Sopanam and others but it was working with the Flying Fish Theatre Company, Berlin for two years where I gained the experience and mustered the real courage to pursue my vision. Once back in India, I started looking for a space where people could come together to work, away from their routine, urban lives. It took a while before my friend Ashish Arora finally helped me find a place in Sonapani, Ramgarh, Nainital. It’s been six years now since this project has been running.”
